Chapter 20: The Phantom

The two who came to retrieve Kael presented distinct appearances.

One, clad in work attire, was evidently a staff member here.

The other, in military uniform, was clearly a soldier of the Daxia Army on garrison duty.

"Student, kindly hand over your weapons to me for safekeeping," the soldier stated, his eyes fixed firmly on Kael, one hand resting on the gun at his waist, ever - vigilant for any erratic behavior.

"Alright," Kael complied readily, handing over the spear and fire axe he held to the soldier.

At the apprentice rank, firearms held significant potency.

Even Kael''s zero - level spell, the Bone Tooth, had an attack power scarcely comparable to that of a sniper rifle bullet, and its range paled in comparison to that of a sniper rifle.

The soldier accepted the spear crafted by Kael.

Upon seeing the dried blood on it, an admiring glint flickered in his eyes.

Evidently, this student had faced enemies in the Spirit Realm and triumphed over them.

"Student, follow us. We''re headed to the testing room first," the staff member said, taking the lead.

The soldier trailed closely behind Kael, maintaining a watchful eye.

Kael followed the staff member along the corridor.

On either side of the corridor were the Spirit Awakening Chambers. Currently, they were all vacant, enshrouded in darkness.

Furthermore, at intervals of approximately fifty meters, a tall sentry tower stood.

Kael looked up and beheld two soldiers on guard in the tower.

A heavy machine gun was mounted there, exuding formidable firepower.

Then he averted his gaze and obediently tailed the staff member.

Before long, the trio arrived at the testing room situated beneath the command room.

The testing room exuded an atmosphere of cleanliness and brightness. In the spacious hall, incandescent lights cast a brilliant glow.

A gentle coolness from the air - conditioner wafted through the air, mingling with the refreshing scent of air freshener, which instantly invigorated them.

"Student, you''re assigned to Testing Room No. 7.

Best of luck! May you have an outstanding awakening experience," the staff member said, clenching his fist in a show of encouragement after guiding Kael to the testing room.

    "Thank you," Kael replied softly.

The testing room was the place where students who had participated in the Spirit Awakening were examined to ascertain whether they had awakened an extraordinary constitution.

Some individuals had taken part in the Spirit Awakening and returned alive, yet that did not necessarily signify a successful awakening of an extraordinary constitution.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Some, upon encountering the slightest commotion or experiencing minor ailments such as headaches or fevers in the Spirit Realm, believed they had awakened successfully, though this was often not the case.

Likewise, some individuals journeyed to the Spirit Realm and exhibited no physical changes during their sojourn, which did not imply they had failed to awaken.

Even some students unknowingly contracted a virus or other perils from the Spirit Realm.

They might remain oblivious, but these could be readily detected through testing.

    However, Kael harbored no concerns.

He was certain of his successful awakening, having already mastered several spells.

If this was not considered a success, then what could be?

Kael pushed open the door and stepped in. A young man wearing glasses sat opposite him.

"Welcome, student. Take a seat," the tester greeted Kael cordially.

    "Hello, teacher," Kael addressed him.

Those responsible for conducting the tests were all professors, teachers, or teaching assistants from various universities, so Kael''s greeting was appropriate.

The young man before him did not seem overly old, and his strength surely did not reach the level of a professor.

He was likely a teacher or a teaching assistant.

"Student, let''s commence the test," the tester said.

    "Okay."

"First, we''ll conduct a blood test. Please extend your hand," the tester retrieved a syringe and gestured for Kael to stretch out his arm.

Then he drew a small vial of blood from Kael''s arm.

Subsequently, he busied himself, placing the blood into a machine.

In Kael''s perception, the machine began to emit a faint magical aura. Evidently, it was an enchanted device.

Soon, the test result was ready. The tester retrieved a printed report from the machine.

After a quick glance, he smiled at Kael and said, "Student, congratulations! You have successfully awakened an extraordinary constitution."

"Thank you, teacher!" Although Kael had already been certain, he could not suppress a smile at that moment.

After a brief pause, when Kael''s excitement had subsided, the tester continued, "According to the test, your constitution leans more towards that of a spellcaster. So, we''ll now test your spellcasting talent."

"Certainly, teacher," Kael assented without hesitation.

The tester then produced a crystal ball as large as a human head.

"Come, place your hands on the crystal ball, focus your mind, and wait," the tester demonstrated the procedure and then pushed the crystal ball in front of Kael.

Kael wiped his hands on his pants and placed them on the crystal ball.

Seeing Kael''s action, the tester couldn''t help but smile.

He had once been in the same position.

As Kael''s hands made contact with the crystal ball, he felt two streams of energy seep from the crystal ball into his hands and extend all the way to his mind, and then retrace their path.

The crystal ball began to emit a soft glow.

"How dare you!" Before Kael could withdraw his hands from the crystal ball, a thunderous shout resounded from above.

Then he saw the tester in front of him adopt a posture as if facing a mortal threat.

What was going on? Kael was bewildered.

"Student, get behind me," the bespectacled tester said, a rare look of panic on his face.

He vaulted over the table and shielded Kael behind him.

Immediately afterward, Kael heard a commotion coming from the adjacent room, followed by a faint scream.

"Woohoo~" A faint whimper reached Kael''s ears, and then he witnessed a startling sight.

A semi - transparent ghost passed through the wall from the neighboring room and entered the room where Kael and the tester were.

With the ghost''s intrusion, a powerful aura of a high rank permeated the air, making Kael, who was standing at the back, feel a constriction in his chest.

Although Kael was terrified, he was determined not to await death passively.

He traced the runes in his mind, preparing to cast a spell.

"Damn it! It''s a ghost!" the bespectacled tester muttered under his breath.

Then he began to gather his magic power, and several arcane missiles materialized around him.

But before they could launch their attacks, a beam of light pierced through the ceiling from upstairs.

The spell beam struck the ghost, which was still hovering in mid - air.

    "Sizzle"

"Ahhh!" The ghost let out a faint scream and then disintegrated like shattered glass.

Seeing this, Kael swiftly canceled the Bone Tooth spell that he had not yet successfully cast.

Simultaneously, at the spot where the ghost had perished, a light spot suddenly materialized and then hurtled towards Kael''s body at breakneck speed.

    Kael was taken aback.

Judging by the light spot, he surmised that he had obtained potential points.

But in this location, such a conspicuous light spot would surely be noticed.

However, he soon realized that the light spot seemed visible only to him.

Even the bespectacled tester, through whose body the light spot had passed, did not appear to notice it.

Could it be that they were unable to see the light spot of the potential points? With this thought, Kael finally felt a sense of relief.
